Ash Wednesday marks the first day of the Lenten Season.  It is not a Holy Day of Obligation, however, all parishioners are encouraged to attend a Mass or Prayer Service where blessed ashes are distributed and applied to one’s forehead.

The St. Mark parish offices are open today and most scheduled activities will take place uninterrupted.

Ash Wednesday is a day when the Church asks us to fast and abstain from eating meat.  Fasting involves eating one full meal or two smaller meals.  The two smaller meals should be no more than the equivalent of one full meal.  The Season of Lent helps prepare us for commemorating the death of Jesus on Good Friday, which leads to His Resurrection on Easter Sunday.
