A Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion (EMHC) is needed to assist the Clergy in distributing the Precious Body and Precious Blood of our Lord. It is a blessing for each of us who serve and has certain requirements.
All EMHC who serve from the Altar, do Ministry to the Sick, or serve at other Liturgical services must first take training to receive a Mandate from the Bishop of our Diocese that is good for five years. Every spring and fall a list of classes is posted in the Ministry Room. The applications are also located there. All who are interested in this ministry should complete an application and put it in the mail box for EMHC and it will be reviewed and sent on to the Pastor for signature. When that is complete, the application with a check from the Parish, is sent to the Diocese for registration.
To be a Minister of the Eucharist, all who are married must be in a sacramental union. If one is divorced and remarried, an annulment by the Church is required. All EMHC are required to complete the online Diocese Safe Environment Training. Those who want to do Ministry to the Sick or Communion Services must also be fingerprinted. Instruction for both of these ministries is provided.
We have almost 200 EMHC, but as our parish continues to grow, our need for more EMHC does as well. Some EMHC are ‘snow birds’ and all of them have travel, family, and other activities that they are committed to do. Our need is great.
